What is SCENES?
SCENES is Scout Centres of Excellence for Nature, Environment and Sustainability
Scout Centres of Excellence for Nature, Environment and Sustainability, or SCENES, are very special places. They are centres that have made a long-term commitment to protect the environment and promote greater environmental understanding. SCENES are committed to protecting their natural environment, minimising their environmental impact and enabling all those involved with the centre to engage with nature and become empowered to make their own personal commitment to the environment. SCENES lead by example and act as positive role models to other Scout centres, non-Scout centres, their guests, and their local community. They provide hands-on educational activities for Scouts and training opportunities for leaders build around a passion for nature and making positive changes for the environment at home and in the community.
How to become an accredited SCENES Centre?
Scout Centres applying for SCENES accreditation must complete the following steps:
- Conduct a self-assessment and meet the SCENES requirements (Refer to this link for all related forms);
- Contact your National Scout Organization (NSO) to submit a WOSM Service request (under the Scouts for SDGs area) to start the accreditation process;
- Undergo a peer review by another SCENES member, either in person or virtually (the list of accredited centers is below);
- The NSO must send a letter to the World Scout Bureau, including the completed checklist and all other supporting documents.
